Annual 'Members Only' Summer Picnic

Beautiful
summer weather brought out the
beautiful cars and their owners
to enjoy our annual picnic.
This is an especially good event
for thanking the volunteers who
help run our car show every
year, but at a somewhat
more relaxed pace! Members
enjoyed kicking back in the
shade, showing off their prize
cars and catching up with
friends. |

The club
booked the picnic shelter in the
park, which provided a
noticeably cooler retreat for
picnickers, complete with big
BBQ, fresh breezes, tables &
electricity, plus plenty of
shade trees. |
 |

 |
|
As always,
the picnic ran smoothly due to
our hardworking volunteers on
the 'food production line'. |
 |
 |
 |
|
We mix up
the menu every year; this time
members started with hot dog
appetizers, followed by tender
boneless smoked pork chops, cole
slaw, potato salad and of course
a selection
of mouth
watering home baked goodies with
plenty of whipped topping. |
 |
 |
 |
|
And our
'other guests'? They enjoyed
themselves too, basking in the
bright sun and gossiping about
their owners, while attracting
plenty of 'oooh's and ahhs' from
other passing park visitors! |

 This
year the show was fully prepared to move
into several buildings in case of heavy
rain, but Mother Nature was kind enough to
hold off, allowing show car owners, sellers
and some vendors to display outside.
This
created a very different feeling to the car
show for 2011, as compared to the spread out
arrangement on the Centre Track from past
years.
 Close
to 500 cars filled the central grounds and
offered an enjoyable stroll from area to
area; people seemed to mingle more and chat
more, providing something of a fair-ground
atmosphere for this 28th annual show.

extra attention for their snazzy engines or
eye-tricking paint jobs... |

mascots or even fuzzy dice that make their
vehicles stand out just a bit... |

And of
course, a sense of humour also seems to go
with classic car ownership... |

Market this year we saw a good crowd,
interesting displays and lots of
vendors... |

fans prowled the parts tables looking for
rarities and bargains... |

while other
vendors offered a large selection of auto
products, and, of course, TOYS! |
 |
 |
 |

There were
plenty of choices in clothing, both new &
used... |

As well as
personal items like jewelry and natural care
products. |
 |
 |
 |
|
As usual,
food vendors did good business sampling and
selling their wares... |

were also a few interesting vehicles on
display! |

The Golden Age Auto Club
and our annual Show & Shine could not happen without our
dedicated volunteers. Watch for them all over the
grounds, selling t-shirts, taking registrations and
providing directions. Our volunteers also enjoy
their own Lounge upstairs in the Agri-Dome with private
washrooms, canteen, a free meal and a great view overlooking the
bustling flea market. |
